The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has officially released the SSC JE 2026 Notification for the Junior Engineer Examination 2026. The recruitment drive has 1,748 tentative vacancies for Junior Engineer posts across various Government of India departments and organizations. The examination will also cover recruitment for Scientific Assistant in the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Selected posts are classified as Group ‘B’ with Pay Level-6 ₹35,400–₹1,12,400 under the 7th Central Pay Commission.
Candidates can submit the SSC JE 2026 online application from 2 September 2026 to 22 September 2026. The last date for online fee payment is 23 September 2026, while the application correction window will remain open from 28 September to 30 September 2026.

SSC JE Vacancy 2026
A total of 1,748 tentative vacancies have been announced. SSC states that post-wise and category-wise tentative/final vacancy details will be published separately on its website. SSC does not collect state-wise or zone-wise vacancy information.
The recruitment includes disciplines/posts such as Junior Engineer Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electrical & Mechanical, Telecom, as well as Scientific Assistant (IMD). Participating organizations include CPWD, Central Water Commission, Military Engineer Services, Border Roads Organisation, NTRO, Department of Telecommunications, India Meteorological Department and other Government organizations.
SSC JE 2026 Educational Qualification
Educational qualification varies according to the post and organization. Depending on the selected post, candidates generally need a relevant Engineering Degree or three-year Engineering Diploma. Some posts also require relevant work experience after obtaining the prescribed educational qualification.
For example, CPWD JE Civil requires a Diploma in Civil Engineering, while CPWD JE Electrical accepts a Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. CWC JE Civil/Mechanical accepts a relevant Bachelor's Degree or Diploma. BRO and MES have certain posts where diploma holders must also possess the prescribed relevant experience.

SSC JE 2026 Age Limit
The crucial date for determining age is 1 August 2026. Depending on the post, the upper age limit is either 30 years or 32 years.

Candidates applying for posts with an upper age limit of 30 years should have been born between 02 August 1996 and 01 August 2008. For posts with an upper age limit of 32 years, the prescribed birth-date range is 02 August 1994 to 01 August 2008.
